He came with the ship Hoop 1662 to America. I am looking for a family connection in Heusden or Nord Brabant.
His father's name might have been Engelbert van Namen
The name "van Namen" means this family original came from Namen; a town situated in the French part of the Netherlands. Nowadays Namen, Namur in French, is a city in Belgium, in the region Wallonia.
In those times Namen had been a big military centre, and maybe? your family moved northward during the famous war 1560-1640. Heusden also was a little town built with fortresses.
As for your ancestors I only found the name Franck van Namen in Heusden in those days. And some people also called van Namen in Tilburg and 's-Hertogenbosch(capital of Noord-Brabant), not many. Heusden is situated nearby.
The word -van- means descended from, and is the same as -von- in German. In Germany you belong to a noble family, in Holland you are not...
With kind regards, Norah
